First edition first print hardback of FLY-FISHER by Jeremy Lucas and published by Jonathan Cape Ltd in 1986. Signed, dated and inscribed to a previous owner by Lucas on the half title page.The book is in near fine condition (black cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine) with no significant wear. The book is in a very good unclipped dust jacket which has light creasing to the top of the spine and back cover. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.
A worthy successor to Ransome's Rod and Line, Lucas's Fly-Fisher eschews the pseudo-science of some practitioners to invoke and share with the reader the 'enormous physical and emotional energy' expended by the lone fisherman perfecting his technique, in harmony with his environment, and absorbed in this 'intensely personal sport'.
