First edition, first print hardback of WORLD SUPERCARS 2 LAMBORGHINI COUNTACH LP400 LP500S by Jeremy Coulter, published by Motobooks - Albion Scott Limited, Middlesex, in 1985. Photographs by John Heseltine.The book is in very good condition (Clean grey card boards with gold lettering on spine, large white Lamboghini emblem on front) with only minor shelf wear to the dust jacket, which is not price clipped (light creasing to the edges). Internally, the pages are very clean and tight and there are no tears and no inscriptions.
"Despite the upheavals that beset the world's supercar manufacturers in 1970s in the wake of oil price rises and the inhibiting work of safety-oriented legislators, Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini SpA survived to celebrate its 20th birthday in 1983. The years since 1963 have seen many different and exciting models of Lamborghini but none more enthusiastically received or longer lived than the Countach which was seen for the first time as long ago as 1971. This remarkable car remains in production today in a world where almost every influence seems to be away from 'excesses' of this type. Indeed, when Lamborghini emerged from its worst crisis, ironically the Countach was the only Lamborghini still in production, other more 'popular' models having fallen by the wayside.
It's impossible to identify why the Countach is still so widely regarded as the ultimate supercar. Maybe it's sufficient to look at the car's incredible styling, its powerful twelve-cylinder engine, racing-type suspension and aircraft-like construction. Other manufacturers have vied for the Countach's crown, but have never quite measured up to it.
