Jeffrey Robinson (born 1945) is a native New Yorker who lived in Europe from 1970 to 2007, including 25 years in London. The author of 27 books, Robinson was labeled by the British Bankers' Association "the world's leading financial crime author." Born in Long Beach, NY, Robinson is a graduate of Philadelphia's Temple University (1967).
While still at school, he wrote for television and radio, including a popular weekly children's show and was on the writing staff of The Mike Douglas Show, a nationally televised daily talk show. He continued working in the media during his four year stint as an officer in the United States Air Force.
Charged with running a press and public relations office for five generals at the height of the Vietnam War, he hosted a weekly talk show, scripted and directed several film projects, wrote short stories for national magazines and moonlighted as a disc jockey on local radio.
When his military obligation was completed at the end of 1970, he took up residence in a small village in the south of France. Using that as his base, he vagabonded around the world, writing articles and short stories for leading North American and British periodicals.
In Britain his feature journalism has appeared in The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sunday Telegraph, The Sunday Independent, the Sunday Express and the Mail on Sunday, among others. His US magazine credits include Playboy, McCalls, Barron's, Gourmet, True Magazine, Ambassador, Mademoiselle, Reader's Digest and TV Guide; while his US newspaper credits include The Washington Post, The San Francisco Examiner, The Christian Science Monitor and The International Herald Tribune (for which he was a major contributor of features during the 1970s).
Often seen as an American commentator on Sky News, Robinson has also appeared on BBC News, BBC Breakfast, BBC Newsnight, BBC World, ITN, Channel 4 News, in addition to NBC News, ABC News, CNN, Fox News, CBC, CNBC, NBC's The Today Show and Bloomberg Television.
He has scripted and hosted various series for BBC Radio, including one on American soap operas and another on the classic radio stars, Amos and Andy. His radio play "Rossum's Cyber Cafe" was a BBC Radio Drama of the Week.
He conceived and wrote the pilot for the British crime drama series, "Tightrope" for Yorkshire Television, and then completed the pilot episode for a British series on financial crime called "Follow The Money." Other television scripts include Sister Banjo and Notice of Claim.
He has scripted a film version of his biography of Brigitte Bardot, called Bardot; and a made-for-television movie version of Standing Next to History, a dramatic re-telling of the special relationship between the president of the United States (Ronald Reagan) and his Secret Service agent (Joseph Petro), called Ronnie & Joe.
He moved to Britain in 1982, with more than 600 published stories and articles to his credit, to concentrate on writing books.
It was one of the most famous romances of the 20th centuryEuropes most eligible bachelor, Prince Rainier of Monaco, and Americas most beautiful movie star, the Academy Award-winning actress Grace Kelly, fell in love against the backdrop of the closest thing the modern world has to a magical kingdom, the French Rivieras Principality of Monaco.
"Best-selling author Jeffrey Robinson has gained not only the unprecedented coperation of Prince Rainier III and his children, Prince Albert, Princess Caroline, and Princess Stephanie, but also been permitted unlimited access to the Royal archives.
The result is a book that gets beneath the glitz and glamour of the rich and famous to reveal the laughter and tears of five very real people and the country they have turned from 'a sunny spot for shady people' into a glittering, thriving success.
For the very first time Prince Rainier discusses the true, private story of his romance with Grace Kelly. Prince Albert talks about his hopes and fears for the day when he assumes the throne. Princess Caroline, one of the most famous women in the world, says what it was like to grow up in a 'fish bowl' as the beautiful, sometimes difficult daughter of a Hollywood legend.
And here is Princess Stephanie talking for the very first time on the record, about the car acciddent that killed her mother and how the tragic events of that fateful September morning have changed so many lives forever.
With humuor, warmth and lively anecdotes, the book's supporting cast of characters includes Frank Sinatra, Aristotle Onassis, Winston Churchill, King Farouk, Sammy Davis Jr., Cary Grant, Charles de Gaulle, the men and women who broke the bank at Monte Carlo and those who went broke trying to."
