First edition, first print slipcased hardback of THE QUALITY OF LIFE by James A. Michener and published by Girard Bank in 1970. Includes a note to shareholders and friends from Stephen S. Gardner the President of The Girard Company.

The book is in very good+ condition (green boards with black lettering to spine and front, with a pasted image to the front board) with light fading to the lettering on the spine. The slipcase is in very good condition with light creasing to the bottom of the spine, very light rubbing to edges, and a tiny open tear to the top corner of the open edge. Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no inscriptions.

James A. Michener writes about the problems of modern American society such as: cities, race, education, youth, drugs, and crime. He also touches on the role television and free press plays in the shaping of society as well as providing insights on the population crisis.
