First UK edition first print hardback of OVER-PAID OVER-SEXED AND OVER HERE (From RAF Eagles to 4th Fighter Group Hawks) by Lt. Col. James A. Goodson and Norman Franks and published by Wingham Press in 1991. Signed by Goodson and Franks on the title page.The book is in near fine condition (blue cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine) with just light pushing to the head of the spine. The book is in a very good unclipped dust jacket which has light creasing to edges and a small price sticker to the back cover. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.
There were a handful of Americans in the RAF prior to the birth of the American Eagle Squadrons. Those first Americans have their story and so have those Eagle pilots who remained in the service of the Royal Air Force once the three Eagle Squadrons became the US 4th Fighter Group of the mighty 8th Air Force in September 1942. By that time, the Eagle pilots had claimed almost a hundred German aircraft shot down over England, the Channel and over occupied France.
Not all the Eagle pilots chose to transfer to the 8th Air Force, many remaining in RAF Squadrons in both England, the Middle East and some in the Far East. Those who chose to stay continued an already successful period of operational flying, but this part of the Eagles story is almost unknown. So too, in any depth, is how those who transferred to the uniform of their native country continued their operational tours of duty.
