First edition first print hardback of MORGAN SPORTS CARS: The Early Years by J. D. Alderson and Chris Chapman. Foreword by Peter Morgan. Published by Sheffield Academic Press in 1997. Signed by Alderson and Chapman on the front endpaper. Very uncommon signed.

The book is in near fine condition (black cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine) with very light bumping to the spine edges. The book is in a near fine unclipped dust jacket which has light shelf wear. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.

In 1970 Peter Morgan, when being interviewed by Motor magazine said "You must, I feel, have reasonable success in competitions if you have the nerve to call your vehicle a sports car. There are many forms of competition and the more your car can do, the better it will be." There is no question that the Morgan four-wheeler can truly be called a sports car, and this book covers, not only the development of the cars themselves, but also their many successes in several types of motor sport whether driven by works drivers or by the ordinary enthusiast. This story is covered not just in Great Britain, but throughout the world for the period up to the end of 1953. Also included in a Morgan book for the first time is a detailed description of the layout of the Morgan factory premises from the beginning of the HFS garage business in Malvern Link, Worcestershire, through to the end of 1953.
