The books are in fine condition with no significant wear. Gilt lettering to spine and front board. Small emblem in gilt to front board. No dust jackets as issued. Internally clean, binding tight.

The 1,400 or so subjects now recorded in these two volumes - from slight pencil preliminaries to highly finished watercolours - are for the most part directly related to intended or published engravings on wood or metal. Although Bewick's reputation as an artist must stand principally on the unique qualities to be found in the engravings, his drawings deserve wider notice.
