Signed, dated, located and with a dedication to a previous owner by Cole on the front endpaper. Very heavy book, weighing 2.5 KG when packaged.

The book is in very good condition for its age (green cloth boards with gilt lettering and red plate to spine, gilt motif to front board) with no more than light general wear. No dust jacket. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.

This is the fifth volume in the sub-series 'European Theater of Operations' of the series 'U.S. Army in World War II'. This series was published by the Office of the Chief of Military History in the Department of the Army. It is a detailed and well written account of the involvement of the American Third Army, under the leadership of Lt General George S Patten, in defending the territory between the Moselle and the Sarre Rivers, beginning in early September, 1944. These operations became unofficially known as the Lorraine Campaign.

657 pages including Appendices and Index. Illustrated with numerous black & white and photographs. There are also several fold-out maps as well as one that is housed in a pocket attached to the inside back board.
