First edition first print hardback of THE LAST VOYAGE: (Captain Cook's Lost Diary) by Hammond Innes and published by Collins in 1978. Signed by Innes on a bookplate attached to the half title page.The book is in very good condition (brown cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine) with light bumping to the top and bottom edges of the spine. The book is in a very good unclipped dust jacket which has light creasing to the edges. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.
On 12 July 1776, Captain James Cook sailed from Plymouth in search of the North-West Passage. This is the story he might have written. The book is an imagined diary, showing a great seaman stretched to his limits.
