First edition first print hardback of THE VANISHED WORLD: An Autobiography - Volume One. by H. E. Bates and published by Michael Joseph in 1969. Illustrated by John Ward. Signed by Bates on the title page.

The book is in very good condition (blue cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine) with just light general wear. The book is in a very good unclipped paper dust jacket which has slight chipping to spine edges, minor rubbing to the corners and a one inch closed tear near to the bottom corner of the inner front flap. There is a very small stain to the edges of the last few pages and rear inner flap. Internally the pages are otherwise clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.

In this deeply nostalgic book H. E. Bates paints the picture of his life from about the year 1908, when he first went to school, to the year 1926, when he was twenty and his first novel, 'The Two Sisters' was published.
