Limited edition slipcased hardback of AMPHIBIAN: THE STORY OF THE LOENING BIPLANE by Grover Loening and published by New York Graphic Society Ltd in 1973. Signed by Loening on the limitation page. Number 220 of 250 copies printed.The book is in near fine condition (silver boards with blue lettering to spine and front) with no significant wear. The book is in a very good clipped dust jacket which has light creasing to the top of the front cover and top and bottom of the spine. The slipcase is in very good condition with some very light rubbing to the open edges and some light colour fading, as well as a short white mark to the bottom. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.
Although this is the story of a plane, there is implicit in it the inspiring story of a man. It also provides insight into the thrilling growth and development of aviation over the last 50 years and into how things that seem "new" today were often well known to Loening and his fellow pioneers of the early days of flight.
