Graham Swift LAST ORDERS Signed Hardback

First edition, eighth print hardback of LAST ORDERS, by Graham Swift and published by Picador in 1996. Signed by Swift on the title page. Winner of the 1996 Booker Prize.

The book is in near fine condition with no more than light wear to the very good dust jacket, which is not price clipped. Internally, the pages are clean and tight. There are no tears and no other inscriptions. There are some very light age spots to the top page ends.

Four men once close to Jack Dodds, a London butcher, meet to carry out his peculiar last wish: to have his ashes scattered into the sea. For reasons best known to herself, Jack's widow, Amy, declines to join them.

On the surface the tale of a simple if increasingly bizarre day's outing, this is Graham Swift's most richly surprising novel to date and his most poignant exploration of the complexity and courage of ordinary lives. A journey on many levels, as universal as it is vividly local, it is moving, funny and humane.
