Hardback edition of A SHORT HISTORY OF ENGLISH LITERATURE, by Gilbert Phelps and published by The Folio Society Ltd., London, in 1962. Illustrated with monochrome frontispiece and 38 plates/ illustrations within the text. First folio edition in slipcase.The book is in good condition (Quarter leather bound pale blue cloth boards with gilt decorations & lettering on spine in red slipcase). There is some wear mainly to the bottom spine edges and slight rubbing to the top. The slipcase is in good condition with some wear to the corners (some cracks and rubbing, very slight discolouring to some parts). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no inscriptions.
A chronological overview of English literature by Gilbert Phelps - an educationist and author best known for nine distinguished novels that he wrote between 1953 and 1975 and for his literary criticism which embraces several foreign literatures, chiefly Russian and African.
