Georgette Heyer PISTOLS FOR TWO First Edition

First edition, first print hardback of PISTOLS FOR TWO and Other Stories, by Georgette Heyer and published by William Heinemann Ltd, London in 1960.

The book is in good condition (Red cloth boards with gold lettering spine) with slight wear to the dust jacket which is protected with brodart and not price clipped (slight creasing along the spine on front, some stains in parts). There are slight remains of a book plate which was removed on the back of the front board and front endpaper, slight liquid stain at the top of the back endpaper and partly on the page ends together with slight foxing spots. Internally, there is a small stain at the bottom of the first few pages and various other stains here and there. Page 79 is held in place by two thin strips of tape, and the top corner of page 5 is missing. Otherwise the pages are tight and there are no tears and no inscriptions. There is very slight tanning to the pages.

Scarce collection of eleven short stories by Georgette Heyer widely acclaimed for her Regency romances. When she died in 1974, she had fifty-one titles in print, legal translations of her work in ten languages and pirate editions in several others.

Pistols for Two is the first collection of short stories to come from the pen of Georgette Heyer, each of whose incomparable Regency romances has given pleasure to millions of readers. The stories are a happy selection from some of her favourite themes: the charming title story, for instance, tells of two close friends who reluctantly oppose each other in an affair of honour; in contrast, Night at the Inn describes a gruesome experience on the Portsmouth road.

All the gallantry, villainy and elegance of the years when Europe's first gentlemen held court at Carlton House and Brighton are exquisitely revived in Pistols for Two. This is a book full of delights for those who never tire of entering the world Georgette Heyer has so triumphantly made her own,"
