First edition first print hardback of THE GUNS OF VICTORY (A Soldier's Eye View, Belgium, Holland, and Germany, 1944-45) by George G. Blackburn and published by McClelland & Stewart, Toronto in 1996. Signed, dated and with a long inscription by Blackburn on the title page. Numberline is 1 2 3 4 5 00 99 98 97 96The book is in near fine condition (grey cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine) with no significant wear. The book is in a near fine unclipped dust jacket which has light creasing to the edges. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.
For the Canadian Soldiers who lived through the momentous battle for Normandy in the summer of 1944, it was inconceivable that the conflict in Europe could continue for another eight long months.
