First UK edition first print hardback of SOLDIER OF THE MIST by Gene Wolfe and published by Gollancz in 1986. Signed to a previous owner and dated by Wolfe on the title page.The book is in near fine condition (green cloth boards with gold lettering to spine) with no significant wear. The book is in a near fine unclipped dust jacket which is protected in an archival sleeve and has very light rubbing to edges. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.

Latro, a mercenary soldier from the north who has been separated from his compatriots in a battle and has suffered a severe head wound. As a result he no longer remember who he is or where he is from - and, worse, he can remember virtually nothing from day to day, and must live out his life in an eternal present, rediscovering the shreds of his identity only when he can pause to reread the written record he keeps which is the text of the novel.
But in recompense for his unfortunate disability Latro can now see and converse with all the invisible beings - gods and goddesses, ghosts and demons and werewolves - who inhabit the land and influence human lives.
