Gavin Gibbons THEY RODE IN SPACE SHIPS First Edition Signed

First edition, first print hardback of THEY RODE IN SPACE SHIPS by Gavin Gibbons and published either by Neville Spearman Limited, London, or by The Citadel Press, New York in 1957. Signed and dated by Gibbons either on the title page or on the inside front board (the images may be different to the ones shown here - that is because I have more than one copy of the book available.). From the author's own library.

The book is in good condition (blue cloth boards with gold lettering on the spine). Some wear to the dust jacket, which is not price clipped (pieces missing, small tears and chips, inside jacket age toned and with tape repairs - all the available copies have similar wear/damage). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions. At the least a good reading copy.

Gavin Gibbons was born in 1922 and was educated at Shrewsbury School and Oxford, where he took his M.A. in History. He saw his first UFO near his home town in 1953 and had several sightings afterwards. His researches led him to the conclusion that those who piloted the space ships not only came from outer space but would one day land on earth.

They Rode in Space Ships retells the stories of Daniel Fry and Truman Bethurum, whose amazing adventures had previously only been available to American readers in shortened pamphlet form.

Daniel Fry claimed to have been taken from New Mexico to New York and back in a Vimana or Scout Ship in an incredibly short time, yet never saw its pilot, Aylan, who spoke to Fry by means of vibrations inside his head.

Truman Bethurum claimed to have had many meetings with Captain Aura Rhanes, the captain of a Scow - a much larger space ship - which is manned by beings much shorter than Earth men. The Scow came from Clarion, a satellite beyond our moon.

Both Aylan and Rhanes warned their listeners of our folly in waging war between the nations of the earth and the unprecedented dangers caused by the use of atomic weapons.

Gavin Gibbons met both Fry and Bethurum and checked their stories point by point adding, where necessary, his own comments and opinions to produce a convincing account.
