Information
First edition, first print hardback of THE SHORT CAUTION by Gary Coyne and published by Orion Books Ltd., London in 1994. Signed and inscribed by Coyne on the half title page.

The book is in very good condition (Clean light blue cloth boards with silver lettering on the spine), with only minor wear to the illustrated dust jacket which is not price clipped (light creasing to the edges). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions.

Gary Coyne is the winner of the 1993 Lichfield Prize.

"Coyne is a sparkling new talent. From his experience as a Birmingham policeman, he has produced a tightly written page-turning thriller which bubbles with humour.

Ex-cops Jack Mayo and Ralph Grice scrape a living as private detectives on the streets of inner Birmingham - streets rife with crime but not with work for Jack and Ralph. When beautiful, sexy Theresa Johnson from Lichfield walks into their office and hires them to clear her husband of the brutal murder of Michelle Rosa, they can't believe their luck.

Intent on finding the real killer, they see their chance to put their police training to good use and breathe some good country air.

But things don't go according to plan: the seedy world of Lichfield nightlife involves more than they bargained for. As they delve deeper, there are more murders and inevitably their own lives and their integrity are threatened."

'A perfectly crafted mix of humour and pace; a stylish thriller; an exciting debut from a gifted writer.' - Judge of the 1993 Lichfield Prize

201 pages.
