First edition, first print hardback of MEMORIES, by Frances Partridge and published by Victor Gollancz Ltd., London in 1981. Signed and inscribed by Frances Partridge on the front free endpaper.The book is in very good condition (Clean blue cloth boards with gilt lettering on the spine, with light fading to the spine and along the edges) with minor wear to the illustrated dust jacket, which is not price clipped (light creasing to the edges). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions. There are some large age spots to the page ends.
Frances Partridge is recognised as one of the great British diarists. She began writing her diaries at the start of the Second World War but only to publish them in her seventies. Francis Partridge's diaries are the record of a woman who not only participated in the lives of the legendary Bloomsbury group, but was the circles oldest surviving member until her death in 2004, aged 103.
Her diaries, written without thought of publication, chronicle a remarkable life. She has translated many books and with her husband Ralph edited the Greville Memoirs.
