First edition, first print hardback of NOT TO ASTONISH OTHERS: The story of the Avon Vale Hunt, by Estelle Holloway. Privately published by the author in 1996. Foreword by the Duke of Beaufort. Signed and inscribed by Estelle Holloway on the title page.The book is in very good condition (Clean beige cloth boards and gilt lettering on spine) with only minor shelf wear to the pictorial dust jacket, which is not price clipped. Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions. There is minor yellowing to the pages.
Estelle Holloway was born in Cheltenham, being a descendant of the Vowell family of county Cork originally a Devon born family from Vowellscombe Manor, near Ugborough.

Originally Beaufort country, it was hunted from 1823 to 1845 by the extraordinary Mr. Horlock who pursued the grey foxes with his enormous hounds. In 1888, the Spye Park Hunt was formed by Captain John Spicer, hunting with a pack lent by the Duke of Beaufort.
The first Avon Vale Hunt was founded in 1895, but had to be disbanded when our country returned to Badminton.
However, by the 1912 the Duke of Beaufort restored our boundaries and Colonel J. S. H. Fullerton brought his "golden pack" to hunt modern AVH country, a tradition continued to the present day.
There have been many colourful Masters such as Lord Knutsford known as Dear T! Also the book follows in detail contributions made by families who have lived in Wiltshire for hundreds of years. This interesting and nostalgic book will be loved by all hunting enthusiasts."
