Limited first edition hardback of PICKELHAUBEN (Spiked Helmets: The Glittering Age: German Headdress from the Seventeenth to the Twentieth Century 1650-1918) by Eric Johansson and published by H.S.M. Publications. Number 1488 of a Limited Edition, signed by Johansson on the Limitation page.The book is in good condition (red leather boards with gold lettering to spine) with bumping to the bottom corners of the front and back boards and creasing to the top and bottom of the spine. The dust jacket, which is not price clipped, is in good condition with creasing to the edges of both the front and back covers and top and bottom of the spine, rubbing to all four corners and small open tears to the spine and corners. The inner dust jacket is lightly age spotted. Internally, the first few pages are very lightly age spotted but the rest are otherwise clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions. There is a bookseller sticker to the inside front board.
Pickelhauben illustrates in actual photographs, both contemporary and older, the helmets of Wilhelmine and pre-Wilhelmine Germany. These helmets include both military and paramilitary formations, from the sixteenth century to the twentieth century. Every regimental helmet of old Germany in the Kaiser's Age is represented with color photographs and detailed descriptions.
