Earl of Halsbury 1944 Signed Hardback Second Impression

First edition second print hardback of 1944 by Hardinge Goulburn Giffard (Earl of Halsbury) and published by Thornton Butterworth Limited in 1926. Signed, dated and inscribed to a previous owner by Halsbury on the front endpaper.

The book is in very good condition (red cloth boards with white lettering to spine and front) with light creasing to the head and tail of the spine, light rubbing to the lettering and light age tanning to the pages and page edges, both of which have some light foxing and the pages have the occasional small stain. The book is in a poor unclipped dust jacket which has some areas of significant loss, and is missing the front inner flap. Internally the pages are otherwise clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.

Giffards future war novel depicts a cataclysmic conflict in which the USSR attacks the UK, leaving only a few survivors. The protagonist, a modern Noah, prepares to leave the shattered island by ark, but is told that the USSR has been obliterated and returns to build a new society in the ruins of the Post holocaust UK.

302 pages including Preface.
