First edition, first print hardback of THE ROBINS: The Story of Swindon Town Football Club, by Dick Mattick and published by Sporting and Leisure Press, in 1989. Signed 'Best Wishes' by 1986 Player of the Year award winner Colin Calderwood on the front endpaper.The book is in very good condition (Clean red cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine) with only minor wear to the dust jacket, which is not price clipped (light creasing to the edges and minor tanning inside the jacket). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions.
Dick Mattick is the author of five books, historian, football fan, and former director of Swindon Town Football Club. In 1984 he founded the Junior Robins, a club for young Swindon fans and in 1985 he joined the Swindon Town Board of Directors.
Colin Calderwood is a Scottish football player and coach who made over 150 league appearances for Swindon Town and Tottenham Hotspur. He was a regular player for the Scotland national football team during the late 1990s, appearing in two major tournaments. Calderwood retired as a player in 2001.
Calderwood became manager of Northampton Town in 2003, guiding the club to promotion in 2006. He then became manager of Nottingham Forest, helping the club win promotion in 2008. Calderwood was sacked by Forest in December 2008 and then moved to Newcastle United, working as first team coach.
After a year with Newcastle, Calderwood became a manager again by moving to Hibernian, but he was sacked after just over a year in that job. In November 2011 he was appointed as Chris Hughton's assistant manager at Birmingham City. Calderwood followed Hughton to Norwich City in June 2012, and left the club when Hughton was dismissed in April 2014.
