Dick Francis LESTER First Edition Double Signed
First UK edition, first print hardback of LESTER (The Official Biography) by Dick Francis and published by Michael Jospeh, Ltd, London in 1986. Signed by Francis and Piggott on the half title page. The book is in near fine condition (black cloth boards with silver lettering to spine) with no significant wear. The book is in a near fine unclipped dust jacket which also has no wear to speak of. Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.
From the inside, Lester is the story of the figure the public instantly recognises, yet hardly knows. It is the result of taped conversations between Lester and Dick Francis over several years. Here you will read about his childhood, of the triumphs and catastrophes that helped shape a strongly maturing genius. Learn the unpublished facts behind the punishments for rough riding in his youth, and know the truth beneath the stormy accusations of stealing other jockeys' mounts.
Lester has never protested, never defended himself against untrue press reports and, because of his reticence, has been much misunderstood. This book sets the record straight and also looks at his long professional life of unimagineable successes, of soaring skills and razor-sharp, split-second decisions.
Here too is the private man at home, living and loving, taking his fame easily, enduring his disappointments in silence, looking always to tomorrow.
338 pages, including Index, huge list of Piggott's British and overseas wins, illustrated with 62 black & white photographs
