Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions. There is minor yellowing to the pages.

British artist Richard David Shepherd CBE FRSA FGRA is one of the world's most outspoken conservationists. He is most famous for his paintings of wildlife, although he also often paints steam railways, aircraft, portraits - notably the Queen Mother - and landscapes. His work has been extremely popular since the 1960s in limited edition print reproduction and poster form, as well as other media such as Wedgwood limited edition plates. He has written five books about his art. He is the founder of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation. He received an OBE in 1979 "for services to the conservation of wildlife." He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2008 Birthday Honours for services to charity and wildlife conservation.

"David Shepherd is regarded by many as being the world's leading wildlife artist. Paintings such as 'Wise Old Elephant' and 'Elephants at Amboseli' have made him internationally famous, and he feels passionately that he should repay his debt to wildlife. He has done so in a big way - by raising vast sums for wildlife conservation. His 'Tiger Fire' painting alone raised ?127,000 to help save the tiger

Every painting David does is sold before he starts it; all his one-man shows, whether in New York, London or Johannesburg have a queue of buyers who draw lots for the paintings. For his hobby, David again thinks big. He owns a collection of mammoth steam locomotives in working order and has a full-scale steam railway open to the public at Cranmore, Somerset. This railway also helps return something to wildlife - it earned ?10,000 on the day it was officially opened by Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, International President of the World Wildlife Fund... Painting for the services, he has travelled the world in nuclear bombers, helicopters and submarines and indeed he began his career as an aviation artist - and it was this that led him to paint African wildlife..."
