First edition, first print hardback of COME WIND OR WEATHER, by Clare Francis and published by Pelham Books in 1978. Signed by the author on the title page (see pictures below)

The book is in very good condition, with only very minor wear to the dust jacket, which is not price clipped (very slight rubbing to edges, very light bumping to corners, nothing at all serious). Internally, the pages are clean and tight. There are no tears and no other inscriptions. Back board ever so slightly bowed.

Clare Francis tells the story of her entry in the 1977/78 Whitbread Round the World Race, when, in the 65-foot ADC Accutrac, she competed against fourteen other yachts in a bid for the coveted Whitbread trophy. Clare, the only woman skipper in the race, describes how she and her crew of eleven (which included her husband Jacques Redon) coped with the realities of life on board an ocean racer, isolated at sea for weeks on end, and facing virtually every danger which the sea and weather could muster. This warm and fascinating account of adventure and enterprise will appeal to all - sailors and non-sailors alike.
