Christopher Kenworthy RIDE A DARK TIDE First Edition Signed to David Gemmell
First edition first print hardback of RIDE A DARK TIDE by Christopher Kenworthy and published by Robert Hale Ltd in 1982. Signed and inscribed to author David Gemmell (who lived locally) by Kenworthy on the title page.
The book is in very good condition (black cloth boards with silver lettering to spine) with light bumping to the corners and light tanning to the endpapers. The book is in a very good unclipped dust jacket which has very light rubbing to the edges and corners and slight foxing inside. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.
The year is 1812. Great Britain and the young United States of America are trembling on the brink of war when a high-handed British officer stops the American trading schooner of Matthew Milburn on the high seas and forces his son, Bart, into the Royal Navy.
When war actually breaks out, father and son find themselves on opposite sides, a family divided by fate and fortune.
Determined on vengeance against the country which has persecuted him, Matthew rages down the coast of Ireland, a privateer and close to piracy. But he has to fight his way through half a dozen battles at sea and in the wild countryside of Ireland before he can find his son and his home port again.
There is adventure and romance in plenty in this, the second book about the adventures of Matthew and Son, the Savannah shippers.
