Fraser was best known for her four continuing family sagas, all of them set in Scotland. Her books sold over three and a half million copies, mostly in her native Scotland but also across the English-speaking world. Her first novel Rhanna was published in 1978 and was followed by seven sequels. The Rhanna series detailed the lives of the residents of a small fictitious Hebridean island of the same name. Her second series was the five-book King's Croft series, begun in 1986, which was set in 19th century Aberdeenshire. She followed that in 1994 with the Noble series, set in Victorian-era Argyll. Her fourth and final series, begun in 1998, were the Kinvara stories, four novels about lighthouse keepers on an Outer Hebridean island. She also wrote a series of autobiographical novels related to her life and upbringing in Scotland..

Stranger on Rhanna is the seventh book in the Rhanna series.

"The tiny island of Rhanna attracted visitors for different reasons. Some came for the beauty of the landscape, the grandeur of the sea and cliffs, the warmth of the close-knit community, while for others it was a haven, a place of rest.

Rachel Jodl came back looking for the security of home. After a long and exhausting world tour, she slipped on the island unnoticed, hoping to find peace and tranquillity away from her hectic life as a concert violinist and the pressures that had strained her relationship with her husband Jon almost to breaking point.

Austrian Otto Klebb also came to the island seeking refuge. But when he stepped off the boat this dark, striking man could not escape the attentions of the ever-inquisitive islanders. By the time his beloved grand piano had been moved into his rented cottage, everyone knew of the new resident. It would not be long before his charm and generous spirit would win a special place in the hearts of all the islanders - especially Rachel's.

Brought together by their love of music, these two troubled souls would soon come to share something much deeper. Only Rachel knew Otto's real reasons for coming to Rhanna, only Rachel knew his true identity, but by vowing to keep his secrets she would risk destroying her own precious relationship with the man she loved.

No one would forget the stranger on Rhanna."
