Chiang Yee THE SILENT TRAVELLER IN NEW YORK First Edition 1950

First edition first print hardback of THE SILENT TRAVELLER IN NEW YORK by Chiang Yee and published by Methuen & Co Ltd in 1950.

The book is in very good condition (cream cloth boards with green lettering to spine and front) with light bumping to the top and bottom edges of the spine and age spotting to page edges. The book is in a very good- unclipped dust jacket which is slightly tatty with light creasing, age related staining and small tears here and there. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or inscriptions.

Illustrated by the author with 17 coloured plates, and over 120 black and white illustrations in text. Mr. Chiang gives us here the impressions which the scenery, buildings and people of New York made upon his mind. His experiences around Times Square, along Fifth Avenue, in Chinatown, Greenwich Village, the Bowery, and Harlem are described with all the insight, wit and sly humour we have come to expect from him.
