The Chalet School is a series of approximately sixty school story novels by Elinor Brent-Dyer, initially published between 1925 and 1970.

The school was initially located in Austria, moved to Guernsey in 1939, following the rise to power of the Nazi Party, then to "Plas Howell", a house on the border of England and Wales, then to St Briavels, close to the English - Welsh border and finally to Switzerland.

Chalet School books were originally published in hardback between 1925 and 1970. The novels were reissued in paperback format between 1967 and 1995. Usually with updated language. Some were more or less uncut, but many others were abridged to various extents, including chapters deleted from some titles. A few were split into two paperback volumes, and several were retitled.

Several authors have written books about the Chalet School. Some of them follow on from the last book of the series, and others attempt to fill in some of the "gaps" in the earlier years of the school. All books are published by Girls Gone By Publishers (formerly Friends of the Chalet School).

Caroline German is the author of the highly acclaimed The Chalet School and Robin and Juliet of the Chalet School both of which sold out incredibly quickly.

The Chalet School and Robin was the first of the fill in books to be written by Caroline German — set after The Chalet School Goes to It. The 2012 edition includes a short story: ‘Joey and Jean’.

" It is the start of the Chalet School's second term at Plas Howell, the graceful Queen Anne mansion on the English-Welsh border, and with the new school year come new challenges, new Mistresses and a new Head Girl.

Robin Humphries, sixteen years old and a member of the Sixth Form, is astounded to learn that she has been chosen to follow in the footsteps of Gisela Marani, Juliet Carrick and the others - including her own beloved sister Joey Maynard. How will she compare to the admired and respected Head Girls who had gone before? A naturally modest girl, Robin is overwhelmed by her unexpected promotion.

'How will I ever measure up to Gisela and the rest?' she thought anxiously. 'Everyone says Jo was the best Head Girl the School ever had but they were all first-rate and I can't possibly be good enough... I never dreamt that I might be Head one day... I'm simply not ready for this!'

Before she has an opportunity to worry too much, however, she is flung headlong into the hurly-burly of life at a busy boarding school. Naughty Juniors, troubled Seniors and unruly Middles await her - and life is made all the more complicated when Joey's youngest daughter Margot becomes dangerously ill..."
