Brendan Lynch TRIUMPH OF THE RED DEVIL First Edition Double Signed

First edition first print hardback of TRIUMPH OF THE RED DEVIL The Irish Gordon Bennett Cup Race 1903 by Brendan Lynch with a foreword by Sir Stirling Moss. Published by Portobello Publishing in 2002. Signed by Brendan Lynch on the title page and by Sir Stirling Moss on the front endpaper. It includes a letter sent to a previous owner from Stirling Moss Limited confirming the authenticity of both signatures. Numberline '5 4 3 2 1' on the copyright page.

The book is in near fine condition (green cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine) with no significant wear. The book is in a near fine unclipped dust jacket which has a tiny nick to the top edge at the back and minor creasing to top spine edges. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.

"Triumph of the Red Devil" is the first comprehensive lap-by-lap account of this exciting and pivotal day-long marathon, whose result changed the motor manufacturing map of Europe. It also covers the Phoenix Park Speed Trials, where the world land speed record was broken at 84 mph.

The 1903 Gordon Bennett Cup was more than an exciting motor race. It was a testament to man's pioneering spirit and such inspirational qualities as courage, honour and sportsmanship.
