Gordon Beningfield was a wildlife artist and broadcaster. He published many books including Beningfield's Butterflies, in 1978. A film A Brush with Hardy, broadcast in cinemas in 1985, covers the painting for the his book Hardy Country (1983).

He contributed to the BBC series Look Stranger in the 1970s, In The Country and One Man and his Dog. He was also a glass engraver who made eight memorial windows for the Guards Chapel. In recognition of his work, in 1995 he was elected a Freeman of the City of London and Liveryman of the Glass Sellers' Company.

Beningfield was deeply concerned about the future of the countryside and actively involved in a wide range of conservation activities. He succeeded Sir Peter Scott as President of Butterfly Conservation. He died, tragically, in 1998 whilst busy painting for a new book, Beningfield's Vanishing Songbirds.

Beningfield's close friend Robin Page, Chairman of the Countryside Restoration Trust, completed the book with Betty Beningfields help.

Robin Page is a farmer, journalist, political activist and former television presenter. Born in Barton, Cambridgeshire, Page presented One Man and His Dog, a television show featuring sheepdog trials. He is also Chairman of the Countryside Restoration Trust, an author with numerous books on the countryside and country life in print and a regular columnist for the Daily Telegraph. His articles also appear in many other publications

"Gordon Beningfield was a remarkable man; he was an artist, a conservationist, a countryman and a supporter of the traditional country way of life. He felt passionately about farming, wildlife, landscape and rural people. This passion and love showed itself in his paintings and his numerous best-selling books.

When he died so tragically, in 1998, he was busy painting for a new book - Beningfield's Vanishing Songbirds. Anxious and angry at the destruction of the British countryside and the birds that depended on it.

Gordon was keen to warn of the demise of our best loved birds. Now, with the help of Betty, Gordon's widow, Robin Page has traced numerous Beningfield pictures, and finished his friend's book. The result is a magnificent tribute to one of Britain's most talented artists and a doughty fighter for the countryside."

Book size: 24.2 x 23 x 2.4 cm. 144 pages. Contains the artist's delightful paintings and sketches.
