First edition, first print hardback of JUGGLING, by Barbara Trapido and published by Hamish Hamilton Ltd./ Penguin Books Ltd., London, in 1994. Signed by Barbara Trapido on the title page.The book is in very good condition (Clean black cloth boards with gilt lettering on the spine), with only minor wear to the illustrated dust jacket which is not price clipped (light creasing and rubbing to edges). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions.
Barbara Trapido was born and educated in South Africa and moved to London in 1963. Barbara grew up the child of liberal parents who were anti-racist and intellectually elitist. She acquired a degree in English Literature and now lives in Oxford with her family.
Trapido has published six novels, three of which have been nominated for the Whitbread Prize. Her first novel, Brother of the More Famous Jack, one of the most highly acclaimed first novels of the eighties, was awarded a special prize for fiction at the Whitbread Awards in 1982; her second novel was Noahs Ark, published in 1985; while her third, Temples of Delight, to which Juggling, published in 1994, is a sequel, was shortlisted for the 1990 Sunday Express Book of the Year Award.
Her following books are The Travelling Hornplayer and her semi autobiographical Frankie and Stankie which was shortlisted for the 1998 Whitbread Novel Award and longlisted for the Man Booker Prize. Her latest novel Sex & Stravinsky was published in 2010.

Christina and Pam are sisters less than a year apart in age. Pam is tall and black-haired with heavy dark brows and olive skin. Christina is small and fair - and stubborn.
