First Canada edition, first print hardback of DAYS OF TERROR, by Barbara Claassen Smucker and published by Clarke, Irwin & Company, Toronto, Vancouver in 1979. Signed and with a dedication by Barbara Claassen Smucker on the front endpaper.The book is in very good condition (Clean brown cloth boards with gilt lettering on the spine, with slight creasing and rubbing to spine edges) with some wear to the illustrated dust jacket, which is not price clipped and protected in mylar (some creasing, fraying and chipping mainly to the top edge and spine edges and minor foxing to page ends). Internally, the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears and no other inscriptions.
Barbara Smucker was one of Canadas best-known and best-loved authors of fiction for children and young adults. Throughout her career, she was profoundly affected by civil rights issues, which informed works such as Days of Terror, White Mist, and Underground to Canada .
She won multiple awards for her work, including the Vicky Metcalf Award, the Canada Council Childrens Literature Prize, and the IODE Violet Downey Book Award. She passed away in 2003.
