First edition first print hardback of THE QUIET WATERS BY by Aylmer Tryon (with illustrations by Rodger McPhail) and published by H. F. & G. Witherby Ltd in 1988. Signed to a previous owner by Tryon on the title page.

The book is in near fine condition (brown cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine) with no significant wear. The book is in a very good unclipped dust jacket which has light creasing to the top edges. Internally the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.

These engaging stories of travels abroad (with rod packed!) and fishing at home are written with a nice turn of dry humour. There is a feeling of good companionship throughout, and the author's eye misses little in such diverse parts of the world as Uruguay and Chile, British Columbia, Iceland, Australia and New Zealand.

Rodger McPhail's pictures brilliantly highlight the diversity and richness of the wildlife and fishing featured in the text.
