The book is in very good condition with light creasing to the edges of the front cover, head and tail of the spine and bottom edge of the back cover. Internally a few pages in the middle of the book have a small crease to the front edge, otherwise the pages are clean and tight and there are no tears or other inscriptions.
In this unique and fully illustrated study Anabel Thomas presents a detailed picture of the commissioning, production and marketing of paintings in Renaissance Tuscany, examining such aspects as the way in which the painter and his business functioned from day to day, how the subjects and their style were decided, the constraints on cost and design, and the division of labour within and between workshops. The author draws on such fascinating sources as the workshop record book of the painter Neri di Bicci, much of whose work survives and is closely documented, and on previously inaccessible material. The result is a new perspective on the production of art in the Italian Renaissance which will prove indispensable to scholars and students alike.
