"One hundred and fifty years ago pessimists forecast, with the advent of railways and the industrial revolution, that foxhunting would be doomed within a generation. Today, despite problems of land, traffic, wire, motorways and hostility from a small but vociferous section of the public, foxhunting is thriving as never before, even though some hunts are being forced to amalgamate to keep down costs."
